Residual effect of sewage sludge fertilization on sunflower yield and nutrition AGRIAMBI
Albuquerque,Hermann C. de; Junio,Geraldo R. Zuba; Sampaio,Regynaldo A.; Fernandes,Luiz A.; Prates,Fabiano B. S.; Amaral Sobrinho,Nelson M. B. do.
ABSTRACTThis study aimed to evaluate the residual effect of sewage sludge fertilization on yield and nutrition of sunflower in its second cycle. The experiment was carried out from April to August 2012. The treatments consisted of four doses of sewage sludge (0, 10, 20 and 30 t ha-1, dry basis) applied in the first cycle of sunflower, distributed in a randomized block design, with six replicates. Sunflower stem diameter, plant height, capitulum diameter and yield increased with the increment in sewage sludge doses, with maximum values observed with the dose of 30 t ha-1. The contents of calcium and magnesium in the soil, pH, sum of bases, effective and potential cation exchange capacity and base saturation increased, while potential acidity and the...

ANALYSIS OF THE U.S.-EUROPEAN COMMUNITY OILSEEDS AGREEMENT AgEcon
Ames, Glenn C.W.; Gunter, Lewell F.; Davis, Claudia D..
In 1986, the American Soybean Association filed a Section 301 petition under the Trade Act of 1974, alleging that European Community oilseed subsidies nullified and impaired benefits of previous trade concessions, specifically the tariff binding of 1962. Two bilateral trade agreements were negotiated to remedy the dispute, the Blair House Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding on Oilseeds. The impacts of these trade agreements were simulated using a three region trade model. Results indicated that neither supply constraints nor penalties for overproduction will contribute to a recovery of U.S. soybean exports to the EC. (Missing 6 tables)

The Production and Price Impact of Biotech Crops AgEcon
Brookes, Graham; Yu, Tun-Hsiang (Edward); Tokgoz, Simla; Elobeid, Amani E..
Biotech crops have now been grown commercially on a substantial global scale since 1996. This paper examines the production effects of the technology and impacts on cereal and oilseed markets through the use of agricultural commodity models. It analyses the impacts on global production, consumption, trade and prices in the soybean, canola and corn sectors. The analysis suggests that world prices of corn, soybeans and canola would probably be, respectively, 5.8%, 9.6% and 3.8% higher, on average, than 2007 baseline levels if this technology was no longer available to farmers. Prices of key derivatives of soybeans (meal and oil) would also be between 5% and 9% higher, with rapeseed meal and oil prices being about 4% higher than baseline levels. World prices...

Goes, Rafael Henrique de Tonissi e Buschinelli de; Yoshihara Carneiro, Mayara Mitiko; Osmari, Milene Puntel; Souza, Kennyson Alves de; Oliveira, Raquel Tenório de; Souza, Charles Jhonnatan dos Santos.
The use of alternative sources of protein for ruminant can alter productivity and reduce costs in animal production. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance, apparent digestibility and quantitative characteristics of carcass components of ewes fed increasing levels (0, 50, 100 and 150 g kg-1 dry matter) of crambe crushed in the diets. Twenty-four culling ewes were distributed in a completely randomized design. All animals were kept in a shed, with individual stalls equipped with feeder, drinker and concrete floor covered with rice hulls. The animals received corn silage as roughage and diets were isoenergetic with 700 g kg-1 of TDN. Animals were slaughtered when reached a body condition score of 3.5 points. The dry matter intake (948.53 g...

HARMONIZATION AND CONVERGENCE OF CANADIAN AND U.S. GRAIN AND OILSEEDS POLICIES: 1985-1996 AgEcon
Gray, Richard S.; Smith, Vincent H..
The United States and Canada share the longest common border and largest bilateral trading relationship in the world. Recent trading agreements--CUSTA, NAFTA and WTO--have enhanced trade by encouraging elimination of many remaining trade barriers. However, one cause for concern about the effectiveness of these trade agreements has been the frequency of Canadian-U.S. trade disputes over bilateral wheat and barley trade arrangements and trade flows. To some extent, these disputes have arisen because of differences in and lack of harmonization between the domestic and trade policies implemented by the two countries, although other political factors have also clearly been important causes of these disagreements. Since 1986, many dimensions of the agricultural...

The Potential Returns to Oilseeds Research in Uganda: The Case of Groundnuts and Sesame AgEcon
Laker-Ojok, Rita.
The study which follows is an ex-ante analysis of expected returns to investment in agricultural research on groundnuts and sesame in Uganda. Studies have shown that it generally takes a minimum of six to ten years for new technologies to begin to have an impact on agricultural production practices. In the case of Uganda, Michigan State University was asked to measure the impact of a program which only began the process of rehabilitating the collapsed national agricultural research system in 1985 and began support for commodity research on groundnuts and sesame as recently as 1989 and 1991. As a result, the assessment which follows relies upon the projection of expected future benefits. While every effort has been taken to make reasonable projections based...

ANALYSIS OF THE WORLD OIL CROPS MARKET AgEcon
Mattson, Jeremy W.; Sun, Changyou; Koo, Won W..
The world of oilseeds, meals, and oils has been evolving. New issues have emerged for researchers and policymakers. The United States is still the largest player, mainly due to its dominant position in soybeans and soybean meals. Nevertheless, the position of the United States has been challenged by several countries. The growth by Brazil and Argentina in the production of soybeans and soybean meal has especially eroded the market share of the United States in recent years. Malaysia and Indonesia have been aggressively marketing their palm oil, intensifying the competition for U.S. soybean oil exports. Other issues include changing trade policies and demand in major importing countries, trade liberalization, and genetically modified crops.

ANÁLISE REVISIONAL DE ESTUDOS DO CULTIVO DA MAMONA NA REGIÃO DOS INHAMUNS, NO ESTADO DO CEARÁ. AgEcon
Moreira, Jose Cesar Pontes; Mera, Ruben Dario Mayorga; Mayorga, Maria Irles De Oliveira.

Infoteca-e
